Bio: Capturing the elusive moment when light enhances form has enchanted Katherine Bates since the early 1990s, when she began painting exclusively in watercolor. She has studied with Tom Lynch, Skip Lawrence, Judi Betts and Joel Popadics, whose prismatic palette and emphasis on painting accurate light effects have helped mold her style. Whatever the subject, she tries to capture that ethereal moment when light and color intersect to describe the form. She is known especially for her floral and botanical paintings, one of which was featured in the March 2012 issue of American Art Collector magazine. She is a life member of the Ridgewood Art Institute, an exhibiting member of the Charleston Artists Guild and a member of the Mt. Pleasant Artists Guild.
